Dolomites of the future in the children’s eyes − The paper presents the experience which was carried out along with the preparation of the Conference. While the scientific community was reflecting on the issue “Whose Alps are these?”, Italian children, from 5 to 18 years old, were asked to answer to the question “Whose Dolomites are these?”, through a competition addressed to schools. Children had to start from their personal experiences and to think about the future of these mountains, taking into consideration the resources, their management, the existing economic interests and the values attached to the Dolomites regarded as an element of the World Heritage. The intent of this paper is to cast lights on two issues, starting from the materials prepared by school children in order to participate at the competition: understanding the level of participation of the youngsters so as to get new insights for the scientific community, and focusing on representation, i.e. the results of the reflections of the participants and the emerging models. The study of these issues allows to consolidate the link between perception and action that influences our present time and our future.
