Abstract

This article focuses on the concept of society in the "Grundrisse", and particulartly its distinction between the various modes of production. The pre-capitalist forms were characterised by the unity of man with the land and the community to which he belonged. The capitalist system broke down these communities, which had been based on traditional hierarchical structures, thus representing a 'new beginning', a radical change from the past.
