This paper deals with the problem of leachate accumulation in a MSW landfill from an hydrological and geotechnical point of view. The study has been carried out by means of: a leachate levels analysis starting from the end of the landfill activity, when the management company put in place a provisional capping with a geomembrane and increased the leachate extraction; a waste hydraulic characterization by performing in situ pumping tests; an estimate of leachate annual production from 2009 to 2012 through a model, based on empirical formulas, and the HELP code, more complex and based on multiple parameters analysis.
