Abstract

If one were to describe “mediterraneanity” as a complex of unique and extraordinary landscapes, and attractivity thanks to natural factors and anthropologic processes, but also some territorial questions (ie as veritable wicked problems) dominated by constant emergencies (both natural and anthropologic) and characterised by a growing concentration of inhabitants, functions and activities that make it one of the places of contemporary transformation, Sicily is one of the more interesting contexts to analyse matrixes and processes. ——— Compared with other territorial realities of the Mediterranean coasts, Sicily, though sharing exceptional contexts, landscape quality and development models, on the contrary doesn’t seem to share the search for a model of alternative growth; the attempt to elaborate new intervention and action formulas, but above all the essential search for an equilibrium between anthropologic presence and valorisation and protection of the natural environment, between social and economic development and the preservation of the territory.
