The project aims to draw scenarios for the regeneration of Quarto Canal Basin, and is divided into three parts: the park for agricultourism along the Quarto Canal, the park for culture, in a dismissed quarry, and the science and technology park, in the water purification plant in Cuma. In spite of the division into parts, the project is developed according to the logic of the overlapping of not circumscribed layers. In the park for agricultourism the fields’ surfaces are the background; the layer of lines (canals, rows of trees, paths) represents the skeleton that holds facilities and amenities; the layer of architecture creates the landmarks. These different systems do not slot into each other to shape a blocked whole, but overlap one onto the other on different layers, keeping their own autonomy. Each building is made up of a shallow parallelepiped of earth, lifted up at a certain height. These trays collect and exhibit: fields, hulks of boats of shipwrecked immigrants, shells of old cars, rubble of knocked down illegal buildings, rusty iron gates, fences, barbed wires, that used to bar the entrance of public spaces. The park for culture inherits the layout of the agricultural layout, but this former grid is soon erased in favour of the autonomy of the axes that would define it. The main elements are: geography, landscape, urban axes, and elements referring to those axes, which are shaped as rooms: block-rooms next to the rock face of the quarry, and tank-rooms on the bottom floor. The purification plant in Cuma becomes a science and technology park, through a superposition layers, welding with the other layers of the park. The existing layout of the area is emphasized. A new formal order, a system of pedestrian paths, makes a second regulating grid, rotated with respect to the former. The cylindrical tanks belong to the layer of landmark-trays of the park for agricultourism as well as of the quarried out rocky blocks.
