This paper is part of Visualizing Venice, an international and inter-disciplinary research project which has the ambition to create new ways to study and communicate the urban history of Venice. The area of study is the insula of Accademia, seat of the museum of Gallerie dell’Accademia. The event of renovation and enlargement of the site has created the opportunity for this research project. Its purpose is the analysis of the transformations, stratifications and changes of the complex at different scales. The goal is to make the history of this place more accessible to the public through a visual and interactive story. The use of GIS to interpret and reshape the historical data has enabled the creation of final products such as movies and 3D solid models.
