This paper examines the actional behaviors of the unprefixed verbs iti and choditi and the aspectual values of the prefixed forms priiti, poiti, prichoditi and pochoditi in the Early East Slavic Povest’ vremennyx let (11th -12th cs.). The telic verb iti meaning ‘to go’ is an accomplishment; if prefixed by pri- or po- it becomes an achievement with a resultative aspectual value (‘to arrive’). The atelic verb choditi meaning ‘to walk’ (a manner-of-motion verb, following Dickey 2010) is an activity; if prefixed by pri- it becomes telic with resultative (‘to arrive on foot’) and habitual meanings; if prefixed by po- it acquires a delimitative meaning (‘to walk for a while’). An analysis of these motion verbs shows that the aspectual values of the prefixed forms depend on the actional features of the basic, unprefixed forms and the semantics of the prefixes, as in the verbal lexicon of the Povest’ vremennych let in general. Telic, delimitative or resul- tative value of the prefixed verbs considered in this study arose from the combination of the prefixes and the basic verbs

Abstract
Telic, delimitative or resul- tative value of the prefixed verbs considered in this study arose from the combination of the prefixes and the basic verbsFile | Dimensione | Formato | |
