Vyraženie vida v kontekstach neograničennoj kratnosti v slovenskom jazyke (v sopostavlenii s russkim jazykom)

It is well known that the Slovene language makes use of the perfective aspect more frequently than do the other Slavic languages. This is apparent in the case of sentences describing repeated situations or habitual events. Building on an analysis of a parallel corpus of recent literary texts, this paper focuses on the factors conditioning aspect choice in Slovene and Russian in sentences expressing unbounded iteration. Attention is paid to both the actional class of the verb and the features of the syntactic context which single out individual subevents of the repetition (i.e. the micro-level), rather than presenting the set of the iterated events as a whole (i.e. the macro-level). The analysis of the examples has shown that there is a strict interdependence between the aspect choice of the verb forms and the presence of other elements in the clause. The examples from the parallel corpus have been discussed with native speakers with the aid of substitution tests.
