The essay explores the negation system in the Tristan of Thomas, which grammatical and lexical processes Thomas uses to realize the negation idea. The verses of the romance are inlaid of negative phrases that exploit parallelisms and antithesis to broaden their significance. The large use of negative expressions, that are often employed in the most emphatic variant, is strictly linked with the rhetoric component of the text and becomes thicker in the interior monologues and in the comments of the author, whereas it is much less significant in the narrative parts or in the dialogues. Almost a linguistic tic of Thomas is the extraordinary frequent use of exclusive-restrictive negation phrases. Their nature allow to better adhere to the repercussions that each episode has in the interiority of the characters, they follow the spread of a sentiment in thousands of different facets and reflect the instability of the passion.
