This work is aimed to develop and optimize a gas ferritic oxynitrocarburizing treatment applied to an industrial 38CrMo4 component with a cylindrical cross section. Special attention has been paid to improve the salt spray corrosion resistance with respect to the hardness requirements and the whole cycle time. Several changes have been applied to a reference treatment by modifying the time and the temperature of each process phase, as well as the gas mixture and the flow of the nitrocarburizing atmosphere. A treatment with a shorter cycle time with respect to the reference process has been reached, which allows to obtain salt spray corrosion resistance up to 96 hours and to respect the hardness requirements.

Abstract
This work is aimed to develop and optimize a gas ferritic oxynitrocarburizing treatment applied to an industrial 38CrMo4 component with a cylindrical cross section. Special attention has been paid to improve the salt spray corrosion resistance with respect to the hardness requirements and the whole cycle time. Several changes have been applied to a reference treatment by modifying the time and the temperature of each process phase, as well as the gas mixture and the flow of the nitrocarburizing atmosphere. A treatment with a shorter cycle time with respect to the reference process has been reached, which allows to obtain salt spray corrosion resistance up to 96 hours and to respect the hardness requirements.Pubblicazioni consigliate
