Microstructural analysis by SEM shows a significant reduction in porosity in the interfacial transition zone for the self-compacting geopolymer concrete. The hydration products display a significant degree of compositional heterogeneity, with the Ca/Si ratio being close to unity in proximity to slag particles and decreasing as fly ash particles are approached. Abstract

Geopolymer concrete was obtained using a mixture of fly ash and slag as binder. It has been observed that the use of a self-compacting mix avoids segregation of aggregate particles and significantly improve mechanical strength at 28 days. Practical applications of the geopolymer concrete will be discussed during the presentation.
