In this article I present al-Farabi's Harmony of the opinions of the two sages, Aristotle and the divine Plato and in particular I place it in context of the sources that inspired it, of al-Farabi's philosophical thought, and of the public to whom it is addressed in the tenth century Baghdad . And I present the reasons for its authenticity. Secondly, starting from the texts by the classical authors of the Islamic Middle Age, I reflect on the translatability of a philosophical work, on the specific challenges that this entails, in particular in relation to the hermeneutics of the text, and I bring few examples of my difficulty in translating this farabian philosophical text into Italian and the solutions that I adopted.
