This paper deals with the reuse of a widespread heritage school existing buildings, made in Italy in the post-unification between the late nineteenth and the first decades of the twentieth century. These buildings, most of them today abandoned, have specific architectural, typological and technological features expression of that historical period. This paper, through case studies located in the province of Padua, intended to develop a design methodology to identify new possible use destinations and their technological solutions in accord with today's sustainability and energy efficiency standards at the same time compatible with the original typology and technology of which these buildings are carried.
