On the basis of a previous article published in the journal on the immune persistence after hepatitis B vaccination in infancy, I discuss why this is a fact and not a fancy. Immune memory after primary series was widely demonstrated by the prompt response to booster dose and by the proliferation of T cells with secretion of IFNγ. In a large cohort of medical students, 79% of subjects were positive for anti-HBs antibodies, and only 1.9% of subjects with immunological signs of past hepatitis B infection. To prevent a severe disease as hepatitis B it is very important that the majority of population is vaccinated, above all if employed in health care, being the most effective weapon to fight the disease, still widespread in the world.
