Scientific and technological interest in seismic behavior of suspended ceiling systems has increased in recent years. In fact, different suspended ceiling typologies have been designed to withstand seismic action. Several shake table tests, defined qualifying tests or fragility tests, have been performed to analyze the behavior of these systems, i.e. to assess the evolution of system’s damage state and its relationship with seismic demand. This work is part of a research project which aims to define these parameters through an experimental campaign using an innovative setup to perform monotonic and quasi-static cyclic tests of suspended ceilings in displacement control according to FEMA461 protocol. Obtained experimental results have been processed and used to perform linear time history analyses of multi-story buildings and to study the behaviour of suspended ceilings systems installed at various levels. In particular, elastic floor spectra and capacity curves in an ADRS (Acceleration Displacement Response Spectrum) domain have been defined. The obtained results are used to assess the seismic demand in terms of acceleration and displacement of suspended ceilings compared to their capacities.
