The paper aims to analyze the Suarezian discussion of the Aristotelian doctrine of the object of metaphysics in the Disputationes metaphysicae and the way in which Aristotle’s Metaphysics has been used in order to formulate the Suarez’s answer to the problem of the subject-object of first philosophy. Although the Suarezian thesis has been constructed not only on the base of Aristotelian theories, but also through the interpretation of the theses of other authors, and even if the traditional commentary on Aristotelian works leave the place to the topics for discussion, Aristotle, however, retains a central role in the entire metaphysical path. The Aristotelian text is filtered through new concepts that find in it its starting point and its legitimacy.
