Le cave del Sommolago: tecniche di estrazione e lavorazione della pietra

This text analyses the ways of using the main kinds of stones that characterized the historic construction in the area of the Sommolago. Starting from the identification of supply places, from the study of the type of cultivation (open-pit quarries or subterranean caves) and the ways of extraction, the traces of the tools used by the workforces have been studied in a broader investigation designed to detect the links between the exploitation of the quarries and their management. The techniques of extraction of stone have been framed in the productive system of the quarries, with the aim to emphasize the social and cultural impact.
