The study analyses the political concept of peace and the practice of peace in Assyria in the 1st millennium BC. To this end, first the Neo-Assyrian terminology of peace in the various textual genres is considered. In the second part of the study, the notion of peace as a royal virtue and governing policy and in relation to the imperial project and hegemonic strategies of imperial Assyria is analysed in depth. Final conclusions are devoted to reflections on Assyrian imperial peace in terms of "universal peace".
