This work is about the central area of Quero, village located in the in the province of Belluno, part of the Municipality of Quero Vas whose territory extends on both banks of the Piave river and several close-by valleys. In the old part of the village of Quero, which was destroyed during the First World War, two disused commercial spaces, one of them of remarkable size, have suggested a thorough analysis of the entire urban settlement, aimed at gaining knowledge on its development dynamics. The disused activities consisted of a timber dryer and a thermo-hydraulic workshop. The areas are located close to the central square where the town hall is located, one east and one west side. They put into question the image, role and perspectives of the square within the community. The aim of the study presented here was to formulate proposals for the renewal of the village of Quero and its general regeneration. The initiative, promoted by the municipal administration itself, was structured as having a first study phase and a subsequent in-depth analysis of some intervention proposals. It is part of the European urban regeneration guidelines in which Italy also partakes. Their fundamental principle is that collective well-being should be sought by rethinking space within existing urban settlements where disused and at times degraded areas exist. This way, cities can be newly seen as part of their landscapes, in a way that is often lost nowadays, which will remind past experiences of urban construction.
