The treatise Ad Autolicum of Theophilus of Antioch (2nd c.) contains about one hundred quotations from ancient poetry and prose works. Not only its author, but also its inner structure and composition remain largely obscure. This paper explores the history of the text, on the ground of the lacunae we may detect, the self-quotations, and the titles known to us through the indirect tradition. In the second part, it reconsiders the preserved archetype of the text, ms. Marc. gr. 496 (with special attention to its paratexts), and its two apographs, mss. Oxoniensis Bodl. Auct. E.1.11 and Paris. gr. 887.

Abstract
The treatise Ad Autolicum of Theophilus of Antioch (2nd c.) contains about one hundred quotations from ancient poetry and prose works. Not only its author, but also its inner structure and composition remain largely obscure. This paper explores the history of the text, on the ground of the lacunae we may detect, the self-quotations, and the titles known to us through the indirect tradition. In the second part, it reconsiders the preserved archetype of the text, ms. Marc. gr. 496 (with special attention to its paratexts), and its two apographs, mss. Oxoniensis Bodl. Auct. E.1.11 and Paris. gr. 887.File in questo prodotto:
