It is the introductory paper of an Italian book on 'rivers and cities. A love at distance' published on line for free by Padova University Press in 2021. It provides some information on frameworks useful for understanding the various and renovelled relationship between rivers and citizens, associations, institutions. In the same book (non included here) there are 23 case studies related to towns touched by rivers flowing into high Adriatic See, practically all Po basin rivers.
