Aristotle represents an exceptional intermediary in the transmission of archaic and classical Greek poetry to the Arabs, in the framework of the translation movement of ‘Abbāsid era, since Arabic versions of poetic works as such are neither preserved nor attested. The poetic quotations and references that are inserted in writings such as the Nicomachean Ethics, translated in the 9th century, constitute the principal testimonies of the Greek poetic heritage available to Hellenophile Arabic readers. Starting from a linguistic-literary analysis of some references contained in the Arabic version of Nicomachean Ethics the specific problems of the translation of poetry and the strategies adopted by the translators are examined.
