Presenze femminili nell'Epistolario di Cicerone

The aim of this research work is to investigate all the female figures mentioned in Cicero's Letters, including anonymous ones. The topic is developed from three different perspectives: firstly, prosopographic profile of all the women in Cicero's Letters will be reconstructed, also considering other ancient sources on their account. The second aim of the study is to highlight the way in which Cicero relates to them, the way he describes them, the way he judges their profile and their action, as long as this can be deducted from the letters. Finally, we will try to underline their effective action in political, social, legal, economic and family affairs, in the context of a troubled and continuously changing reality such as the late-republican one. The obtained results allow to fill a gap both in the panorama of prosopographic collections of the Republican age and in the field of gender studies applied to antiquity.

Lo scopo del presente lavoro di ricerca è porre al centro dell'attenzione tutte le figure femminili menzionate all'interno dell'Epistolario ciceroniano, comprese le anonime. L'interesse nei confronti di queste donne è sviluppato secondo tre prospettive: in primo luogo si intende ricostruire il loro profilo prosopografico, considerando anche le menzioni sul loro conto provenienti da altre fonti antiche. In secondo luogo ci si propone di porre in rilievo il modo in cui l'arpinate si relaziona con loro, come le descrive, come giudica il loro profilo e la loro azione, nella misura in cui questo può essere dedotto. Infine si cercherà  di dare rilievo al loro effettivo agire in campo politico, sociale, giuridico, economico e familiare, nel contesto di una realtà  travagliata e colpita da cambiamenti come quella tardo-repubblicana. I risultati ottenuti consentono di colmare una lacuna sia nel panorama delle raccolte prosopografiche di età  repubblicana sia nel campo dei gender studies applicati all'antichità.
