The chapter aims to provide a historical, concise and timely introduction on the birth and subsequent development of the school of the psychology of perception at the University of Padua, and on the themes investigated by its leading protagonists: Vittorio Benussi, Cesare Musatti, Fabio Metelli (and pupils) and Gaetano Kanizsa (and pupils). In conclusion, the repercussions and connections of basic research in the field of perception on some related sectors are mentioned, such as that of the psychology of art as well as the analysis of the neural correlates of perceptual experience.
