Abstract

The development of antimicrobial materials recently have gained increased interest, especially for the development of medical devices as a practical way to prevent bacterial infections. In this contribution, we present the preparation of a multifunctional cotton textile material on which different antimicrobial peptides have been bound simultaneously. Each peptide has been linked with the aim at fighting a specific bacterial target. The peptides and the peptide-functionalized cotton samples obtained with this approach were tested on bacterial strains, showing that peptides are able to inhibit bacterial proliferation even when covalently linked to the cellulose matrix. The activity is maintained even after UV-sterilization treatment
