The paper articulates the connection between a certain kind of artistic “gaze” and the everyday. It begins commenting on the crucial part of a remark by Wittgenstein on which art historian Michael Fried focuses in his book on photography as art, and on Jeff Wall’s "Morning Cleaning" (Sections 1 and 2). In the form of a Romantic variation, it is then very briefly discussed the question of the (philosophical) interest of the everyday, touching on the role of creative imagination (Section 3).

Abstract

The paper articulates the connection between a certain kind of artistic “gaze” and the everyday. It begins commenting on the crucial part of a remark by Wittgenstein on which art historian Michael Fried focuses in his book on photography as art, and on Jeff Wall’s "Morning Cleaning" (Sections 1 and 2). In the form of a Romantic variation, it is then very briefly discussed the question of the (philosophical) interest of the everyday, touching on the role of creative imagination (Section 3).
