In the years following its foundation as a municipium, the city of Verona was provided with canalizations and cloacae for the disposal of water, as attested by the inscription recovered at Porta Leoni. However, surprisingly, little attention has been paid to the urban sewage system so far. The aim of this contribution is to examine the evidence related to the wastewater management of the city, through the analysis of insights drawn from the available literature, archive documents, and data provided by the numerous archaeological investigations carried out from the 19th century to the present day. The object of this study will be, firstly, the reconstruction of the extension and functioning of the urban sewer network. The contribution will then focus on the dimensional, material, and constructive aspects of the conduits. The analysis provides important data on the urban structure of Roman Verona and on the technical skills of Roman engineers.
