The impressive improvement of transcriptomic platforms and bioinformatic tools in the last 10 years has meant the generation of huge amounts of data concerning expression profiling and transcriptional relationships of genes involved in grapevine berry development and its quality traits. Here we present the most recent insights obtained from transcriptional studies published to date regarding global expression profiling during berry formation and ripening, environmental effect, molecular events taking place during post-harvest dehydration process and expression of genes directly involved in defining berry quality traits.
