Since 2004, with the attacks in Madrid and London, the production of a discourse inaugurated in the environments of the Belgian and Dutch security services on the phenomenon of violent radicalization of Islamist origin has imposed itself on the international political and academic scene (Fadil, de Koning, Ragazzi, 2019). The process of construction of this discourse has evolved over time, arriving at criminalizing European Muslim communities by differentiating and categorizing between trusted and suspicious Muslims (Ragazzi, 2016), identifying the children of Muslim migrations as the main recruitment pool for Jihadist formations in the West and the European cities where these young people were born or raised as the place of action (Crocitti, 2020). From the need to disarticulate these narratives, we decided to intercept the interested parties and have them tell us what it means to be young Muslims in Italy, going beyond the stereotyped representations that have been built about them by "experts" of religion, deviance, politics, music, youth. This work therefore investigates the relationship that young Muslims with migrant backgrounds develop with the Muslim faith and with street cultures and its musical styles (rap, trap, drill). The suggestions offered by the interviewees seem to confirm the existence of a process of hybridization and construction of collective identities (Forman, 2000) that are structured starting from a critical reworking of the religious experience and from a new musical genre, which has allowed young people and young daughters of migration to name instances and practices of resistance that are ambivalent with respect to the classic representations of deviance.
