The aim of this contribution is to analyse the reception of Juvencus in two anonymous Middle Latin poetic uitae: the Vita sancti Eligii (BHL 2478) and the Miracula Nynie episcopi (BHL 6240; CPL 2152). Alongside the use of many classical and Christian poets, both works exhibit an extensive use of Juvencus’ work, which is considerably more significant than documented in the existing editions. The poems, which are poetic rewritings of prose texts, originate from two distinct geographical areas: St. Amand and York. The two works are addressed to two distinct audiences: the Vita sancti Eligii is written, at least in accordance with the author’s claims, for an educated readership, whereas the Miracula Nynie episcopi is intended for a school audience. The analysis will make it possible to evaluate two different ways of using Juvencus’ work in two different cultural contexts.
