The authors of this contribution aim to inquire how State sovereignty adapts in situations of global emergencies based on an International Law perspective. The first part of the chapter will be about the role of State sovereignty in terms of internal jurisdiction regarding health within the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and its implications for international law. The second part will analyze how various international crises – the war of aggression of Russia against Ukraine, the Gaza conflict, the Nagorno-Karabakh crises – have highlighted the real meaning of the term “sovereignty” in its external implication related to the challenges of defending territorial integrity.

Abstract

The authors of this contribution aim to inquire how State sovereignty adapts in situations of global emergencies based on an International Law perspective. The first part of the chapter will be about the role of State sovereignty in terms of internal jurisdiction regarding health within the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and its implications for international law. The second part will analyze how various international crises – the war of aggression of Russia against Ukraine, the Gaza conflict, the Nagorno-Karabakh crises – have highlighted the real meaning of the term “sovereignty” in its external implication related to the challenges of defending territorial integrity.
