Music speaks to us, it is perfectly capable of addressing each of us. Yet sometimes we feel a certain unease, not just because we cannot read the notes, but because we ourselves do not know how to talk about music. To overcome this impasse, the book offers a reflection on the meaning and history of certain musical terms. Tone, harmony, consonance, pulse: words that are sometimes very ancient, which describe elements of music and at the same time philosophical concepts, emotional states and dispositions of the soul. These words that belong to us and that we use every day, are explained in this book in a clear and accessible way. By allowing ourselves to be guided along the way, we will be able to better understand the music we listen to and finally give a name to musical phenomena that are familiar to us, but which we do not know how to express effectively.
