This chapter aims to clarify the role of cybernetics in Gilbert Simondon’s philosophical work. There are several instances in his writings where the French philosopher addresses cybernetics. However, deriving a cohesive interpretation from these passages can be challenging. I believe that only a comprehensive reading of his work can reveal the nature of the relationship between Simondon and cybernetics. My investigation will cover a chronological spectrum that includes his earliest manuscripts and extends to his final university lectures, encompassing his two doctoral dissertations as well. I will demonstrate how complex and nuanced Simondon’s interpretation of cybernetics is, as it allows us to grasp, without reductionism, the profound theoretical implications of cybernetics while also revealing its limitations and challenges.

Abstract
This chapter aims to clarify the role of cybernetics in Gilbert Simondon’s philosophical work. There are several instances in his writings where the French philosopher addresses cybernetics. However, deriving a cohesive interpretation from these passages can be challenging. I believe that only a comprehensive reading of his work can reveal the nature of the relationship between Simondon and cybernetics. My investigation will cover a chronological spectrum that includes his earliest manuscripts and extends to his final university lectures, encompassing his two doctoral dissertations as well. I will demonstrate how complex and nuanced Simondon’s interpretation of cybernetics is, as it allows us to grasp, without reductionism, the profound theoretical implications of cybernetics while also revealing its limitations and challenges.Pubblicazioni consigliate
