This essay presents a preliminary critical edition of the first part of Book 8 of Albertino Mussato’s 'De gestis Italicorum post Henricum VII Cesarem'. Only a manuscript of very poor textual quality survives for the second part of De gestis Italicorum, ms. Città del Vaticano, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Vat. lat. 2962. Following a brief preamble, Book 8 narrates the sudden downfall of two powerful rulers, Uguccione della Faggiuola and Giberto da Correggio, thereby confirming the fickle nature of human fortune.
