This work aims to investigate the tendency of Hispanic American fiction in the 2000s to treat peripheral cultural locations as “zones of estrangement”, designated to represent the effects of globalization in Latin America according to the conventions of weird aesthetics. In particular, the landscapes of late transnational capitalism, in which local and global elements hybridize, giving rise to scenarios of contamination, intoxication, and “mutation,” are the subject of eccentric observation in a series of writings that unscrupulously combine different genres and trends in non-mimetic literature, reactivating the political urgency of a ‘peripheral’ discourse aimed at denouncing the ‘normalization’ of the world system.

Abstract
This work aims to investigate the tendency of Hispanic American fiction in the 2000s to treat peripheral cultural locations as “zones of estrangement”, designated to represent the effects of globalization in Latin America according to the conventions of weird aesthetics. In particular, the landscapes of late transnational capitalism, in which local and global elements hybridize, giving rise to scenarios of contamination, intoxication, and “mutation,” are the subject of eccentric observation in a series of writings that unscrupulously combine different genres and trends in non-mimetic literature, reactivating the political urgency of a ‘peripheral’ discourse aimed at denouncing the ‘normalization’ of the world system.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
