Being without children and not being willing to having children are two status apparently very similar, even because they produce the same effect. However, thy reflect antithetical ways to face life. Being without children leads to a status of unhappiness towards this condition, of regret for the children “not arrived”, the lost possibility of being parents. The freedom of not having children is a real living style in the name of priorities deemed as much noble and attractive. The lack of desire for having children has been so far quite rare. It was not flagged as a conscious choice, rather it was kept hidden. Now it has become a reason of pride, belonging, recognition and affiliation too. A phenomenon which is intriguing, with multiple roots and repercussions. It is part of a pride that before it was represented only by having children. Maybe in this case it is better to use the English word “pride”, “childfree pride”.
