Abstract

A progressive step-by-step approach is suggested to optimize energy conversion plants and systems when many conflicting aspects must be considered and a mathematical description of the problem is very hard and/or can be performed by means of complex and time-consuming calculations. The procedure can easily be adapted to meet different objectives pursued by analysts, designers, operators, policy makers. Some examples of application of this approach to different systems, according to different objectives, are presented in the paper.
