Conclusions: ...Considering the possibility of absence of cooperation owing to pursuit of secondary gain (as in our case) or to an uncommon attempt at suicide by deliberate foreign- object ingestion, removal of foreign bodies in prison inmates should not be performed under local anesthesia with flexible endoscopy. Rigid esophagoscopy under general anesthesia should be preferred in cases of sharp foreign bodies, which are typically ingested deliberately by prison inmates.
