A study of phytobenthic communities of the Islands of the Lagoon of Venice has been carried out on the hard substrata from +40 cm to –100 cm (midlittoral and sublittoral zones). 78 taxa were found in the two seasons (spring and autumn), 38 Rhodophyta, 18 Phaeophyta e 22 Chlorophyta. The structural indicators show a sparely structured phytobenthic communities with a prevalence of eurivalent algae or belonging to the Rhodymenietalia and Ulvetalia orders suggesting eutrophyc and turbidity conditions. Lomentaria hakodatensis Yendo, new specimen for the algological flora of the Italian coasts, native to other geographical areas, have been found.
