The complexity of ESD qualification of Smart Power and High Voltage ICs is presented. The multiple solutions provided by the versatile BCD technologies to build-up robust and effective ESD protection components are described. The different peculiarities of more mature or more advanced technology platforms are reflected in the ESD protection choice and design. The importance of the CDM-ESD is highlighted and the related critical items in case of Smart Power ICs are commented.
