Abstract

What actually means "particle" for a physicist? Which kinds of experimental evidences can substantiate the particle picture coming from the quantum field theory approach to the physical world? A tentative answer to these questions is the chief aim of this paper. We shall not take into account explicitly many of the philosophical questions, that are discussed in other papers of this book. Our central concern here is to understand the physical point of view through an excursus on the (not so well defined) borderline between theory and experimental evidences.
