Dove non c'è paesaggio: indagini nella città diffusa veneta e questioni aperte

"Città diffusa" is an effective definition of the strong spatial changes linked to the economic and social transformations that have occurred in the Venetian central plain over the past decades. This landscape is made up of a confused superimposition of different elements, with a prevalent urban character, over a persistent texture of rural structures; it is leading the Venetian landscape far removed from its literary image. A new landscape is growing, disjointed and full of contrasts; its critical aspects and perspectives are emerging as a new issue of debate. Are the people who built and live in this new emerging landscape aware of the present processes? The perception of having reached a limit is often claimed as widespread, and this could allow the beginning of shared considerations toward a more responsible spatial management. But, in which measure is this limit really perceived? How are this territory and its changes perceived? What impression do the inhabitants of the Venetian città diffusa give when talking about landscape? Such questions are tackled through a first survey in the field. Far from the claim of proposing an essay concerning the Venetian people's opinions about their territory, the research shows some indications that point to an emergency: the dimension of local people's awareness dimension needs to be involved in landscape studies, policies and projects.
