This study investigates differences in coarticulatory nasalization in nasal-fricative sequences in Italian and English, and relates language differences to phonological developments such as vowel nasalization and stop epenthesis. Acoustic and aerodynamic data are presented. The results show that language-specific factors have an effect on shaping phonological rules and that synchronic variation reflects diachronic sound change.

Abstract
This study investigates differences in coarticulatory nasalization in nasal-fricative sequences in Italian and English, and relates language differences to phonological developments such as vowel nasalization and stop epenthesis. Acoustic and aerodynamic data are presented. The results show that language-specific factors have an effect on shaping phonological rules and that synchronic variation reflects diachronic sound change.File in questo prodotto:
