Abstract
In a man-made forest such as overaged chestnut coppice stands, post cultural dynamics following management abandonment may compromize the protective function of the forest. In this article we present some results obtained in Italy and Switzerland from studies on stool uprooting in overaged coppice stands. As a rule, collapses originate from the uprooting of single overaged stools located in steep (>30 °) slopes. Succesive uprooting takes place from the edge of the resulting gap.File in questo prodotto:
