One of the salient aspects to understand the experience of the youths who live in residential communities is how they use social recourses to satisfy their needs. Within the theoretical framework of Kelly’s personal constructs psychology, the present research explores how 30 youths living in residential communities, compared with 30 same aged youths living at home, disperse their dependencies. Using dependency grids not only is the breadth of the network of relationships revealed, but also their differentiation in terms of how much the person discriminates among the resources on which he depends, what he does it for, and the main resource he confides in. The results suggest many differences between men and women and show that the youths living in residential communities confide mainly in themselves.
