The aim of this article is to understand how the process of transformational growth shaped the boom and the bust of the New Economy. Our focus is on the three-way relationship between the development of information and communication technologies, structural change and economic growth, as the key determinants of the cycle of expansion. This helps to bring into focus the role of private investment in Hi-Tech, but also that of finance and macro policy.
