The IADPSG Consensus Panel recently has suggested new diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes (GDM) diagnosis. Aim of our study was to evaluate clinical and metabolic characteristics and pregnancy outcome in women prior classified normal by Carpenter and Coustan criteria and now GDM according to the new recommendations. The new GDM diagnostic criteria recommended by IADPSG identified a new group of GDM women that, classified normal with Carpenter and Coustan criteria, show metabolic characteristics and pregnancy outcome similar to those of GDM women.
