The paper discusses the origin, the rationale and the theoretical framework of the Participatory Rural Appraisal in the framework of the Development Studies and Policies. Then, it analyzes a FAO participatory development project in Tunisia, outilining some geographical issues which should be taken into consideration: the scale factor, the role of the territorial actors and the meaning of territorial structures.
