Abstract

This paper describes that in patients with type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and the cluster of abnormalities related to the metabolic syndrome are strongly associated with kidney dysfunction. Although the study design does not allow us to draw firm conclusions about causality, the results obtained strongly suggest that insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome affect GFR in patients with type 2 diabetes.
