Similarities and differences in the lithostratigraphy, Paleozoic sequence of events and metamorphic features of the Austroalpine and Southalpine quartzphyllite are tentatively discussed, pointing out that these complexes may record a similar Paleozoic evolution at least since Upper Ordovician, and that the main vertical offset along a fault zone parallel to the tectonic Periadriatic Lineament was produced before Upper Ordovician.
